Minds In Action

Minds in Action is designed to provide learning experiences outside of the classroom. Reminiscent of MSDWC's former Science In Motion program, MIA takes students throughout the county, state, and country for the best in hands-on learning.

Northfield Elementary students are eligible for MIA - Levels 2 and 3, but Minds In Action - Level 1 is available for younger students.

Cost: $250 (includes a $50 non-refundable deposit)
Dates: June 8-12, 2026

This five-day adventure through Indiana’s state parks is filled with outdoor exploration, hands-on learning, and plenty of fun. The trip begins at Spring Mill State Park, where travelers visit the historic Pioneer Village and Grist Mill, explore Donaldson Cave, and enjoy time on the water with canoeing, kayaking, and boating at Spring Mill Lake. Unique experiences include a creek stomp and campfire snake talk with DNR naturalists, along with boat tours of the Twin Caves and a visit to the Grissom Memorial.

Midweek, the group heads to Turkey Run State Park, known for its dramatic canyons and scenic trails, as well as Cave River Valley and Shades State Park for more hiking and exploration. Highlights include horseback riding, swimming, and learning from DNR guides. The trip concludes at Prophetstown State Park, where everyone can cool off and celebrate the week’s adventures at the park’s popular waterpark before returning home.

Parents will drop off students on Monday morning and pick them up on Friday evening at Metro North Elementary School. A payment plan is available.

Dates: June 14-30, 2026

This 16-day adventure takes students across the American heartland to some of the nation’s most iconic destinations. The journey begins in Iowa at the Field of Dreams Movie Site, then winds through quirky roadside stops like the Jolly Green Giant, Corn Palace, and Wall Drug before exploring the striking landscapes of Badlands National Park, Mount Rushmore, and the Black Hills.

The adventure continues west to the breathtaking Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Park, where highlights include Old Faithful, Grand Prismatic Spring, Jenny Lake, and whitewater rafting in Jackson Hole. The final stretch ventures north to Glacier National Park for hikes to Grinnell Glacier and Ptarmigan Tunnel, followed by visits to Theodore Roosevelt National Park and a refreshing finale at Hurricane Harbor Water Park. From national landmarks to natural wonders, this trip is packed with exploration and unforgettable moments!

Parents will drop off students on June 14 and pick up on June 30 at Metro North Elementary School. A payment plan is available.
